Sandalwood Essential Oil (santalum spicata)

Sweet and spicy and all things nicey!…obviously not a real word, but it does have a certain ring to it.

So, you already know the origins of sandalwood by now, and what it’s great for, so here is what I like about it.  It has a warm woody and thoroughly gorgeous smell; The back end of this smell reminds me of the scent you get when an open fire is nearing its end, and I do love an open log fire.  It also has an almost, but not overpowering musky smell, mingled with an earthy smell.

When you combine this smell with cardamom, you get a sweet woody smell that reminds me of fairies dancing around an open fire…see if you know where I’m coming from with this unique description.

Cardamom Essential Oil (elettaria cardamomum)

Cultivated in India, Sri Lanka and Guatemala, cardamom is known as the Queen of Spices in the culinary world.  As an essential oil it is a soothing oil with a woody, spicy and sweet smell.  It is known for its uplifting and stimulating effect, making it a perfect companion when blended with sandalwood.  It is also known as an aid for calming motion sickness, nausea and an upset stomach, and when applied topically, on its own it, creates a warming sensation on the skin.  Did I also mention that it has been said to inspire sensuality and help to encourage a romantic atmosphere.

If all that information was overwhelming, when simplified, this spicy duo should hopefully make you and your partner feel like fairies dancing, flying and swooping around an open fire, without getting motion sickness…all with a warm tingly feeling.

Sandalwood & Cardamom Organic Whipped Body Butter

Yes, you could roll around in a pile of leaves, or even grab a big handful and inhale deeply, but there’s no guarantee you will get that natural earthy smell you’re looking for.  I have however found that Sandalwood & Cardamom, when combined, achieves that smell perfectly.  Think of Mother Earth and how you would expect her to smell if you met her up close and in person and that is the aroma you get.  I find myself inhaling the scent from the jar over and over again, especially when I’m indoors all day and a want a mild woody smell that takes me back to times spent walking through the woods and that gorgeous smell from an open living room wood fire.

Does that make me strange?  I don’t know, but it puts a smile on my face.  I’m certain it will do the same for you.

Body Butter Ingredients

Organic Cocoa Butter (Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter)
When applied to the skin, our organic unrefined and edible cocoa butter gives softness, nourishment and protection.  It slows down trans epidermal water loss, keeping the skin hydrated and conditioned by promoting elasticity. It protects the skin from the elements and dryness. It has also been said to enhance a suntan and help fade the appearance of scars and stretch marks

Organic Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii)

Our organic and edible shea butter, as well as being a fantastic emollient and conditioner for the skin, improves the skins elasticity and helps the skin to regenerate faster, giving it a younger and fresher looking appearance.

Known for its healing, protecting and nourishing properties, it protects the skin from UV rays and is therefore great as after-sun care.

Organic Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera)

By applying organic coconut oil to the skin, this edible moisturising oil rejuvenates and can help with dry skin and irritations.  it will help keep the appearance of the skin healthy and smooth; and due to its natural composition of saturated fat, it is known to help reduce the loss of moisture.

It protects against cracking, helps skin growth, and due to its vitamin E content, has antioxidant properties which are known to help stop skin ageing early; and when applied to the skin once you have tanned it may help to prolong the tan.

Organic Avocado Oil (Persea Gratissima)

With its high content of vitamins, A, D, E, lecithin, phytosterols and Omega 9 fatty acids, the nourishing avocado oil, which is also edible absorbs quickly into the lower skin layers where it promotes healing, skin regeneration and protection from the aging effects of UV light and pollution. It is also known for its soothing and anti-irritant properties

Organic Olive Oil, non-GMO, cold-pressed, unrefined, extra virgin olive oil (Olea Europaea Fruit Oil)
With its skin nourishing, softening & protective qualities our edible cold-pressed organic olive oil is absorbed quickly and therefore beneficial for dry skin, or chapped skin on elbows, knees, hands & feet.  As an anti-inflammatory it works well in oil blends that treat skin irritations, damaged skin, and itchiness.

Vitamin E oil (Tocopherol)

Our natural Vitamin E Oil helps to soothe, moisturise, and soften the skin. As a powerful antioxidant, it not only revitalises and protects the skin, but also helps combat the damaging effects of free radicals and shields the skin against environmental pollutions such as car fumes.

This oil can help slow down the appearance of ageing and boost the circulation in the skin; prevent loss of moisture to the skin and help in the repair of scarred and blemished skin.

Organic Carnauba Wax (Copernicia prunifera)

Our carnauba wax is especially good for sensitive skin, is an efficient skin emollient and helps to keep skin soft and smooth.
Also called Brazil Wax, it is exuded from the leaves of the Brazilian palm tree known as Copernica Cerifera. The “Tree of Life”, that proliferates along riverbanks, streams and damp lowlands. This wax is often used in jellybean type sweets to give them their shine.

How and when to use

With no added water, a little bit goes a long way.  Simply warm a little bit in your hand and spread it all over your body, from your top to your toes. Use it sparingly twice a day to keep your skin glowing for hours, and then indulge again for soft silky skin before bedtime.

At bedtime I pay close attention to my elbows, knees, feet and hands…I‘ve also indulged in bamboo gloves and socks to stop any moisture being lost by cotton bedsheets.

Hint: For those with dry skin or dry skin conditions, bamboo bedding and clothing can also make a massive difference…take a look at our blog for more information.

I also pay close attention to moisturising the stretch marks and scars on my thighs, bum and tum.

As with all natural butters, you may need to pop your body butter into the fridge in warmer weather/environments.

Due to the natural origins of all the ingredients, the colour, consistency and scent of the body butter may vary from batch to batch.
